Our hope beyond elections 2016

Present has an amazing way of surprising us with incidents that we could have never imagined before. We can apply all types of strategies in the past state to be able to live in a predictable present, but there seems to be always something that we wouldn’t be able to know.

For many people across the world the current US election results  is an example of an event which we could have not imagined. It is disappointing, hear breaking, unfortunate, upsetting and depressing (all at once)! We could see around and say that after 24 hours since the results have been out, we haven’t seen anything bad happening. Protestors have protested but normal people have gone on to live their normal lives. The look on their faces while sharing a moment with their loved ones is as satisfying as we have always known. There is still the same love and respect for each other’s freedom. There is peace and signs of calmness on their faces. The kids are still smiling while looking at the blue sky. I would accept that I’m feeling as happy as ever while watching the beam on their faces, the kind of one we get during a warm and beautiful November day.

Nevertheless, I can not deny that I’m worried about what is there to come. While I know that one man can never decide everything in a democratic government, but I do fear that

People can behave foolishly, recklessly, self-destructively in the aggregate just as they can individually. Sometimes all they require is a leader of cunning, a demagogue who reads the waves of resentment and rides them to a popular victory.

Did we just create an order which will destroy all the beauty that exists on this beautiful November day? Is this going to be an example of how a land which idolizes equal rights for every caste, sex, race and religion, becomes a delusional concept?

I am a believer and I would like to hope that we will overcome all the evil that will prevent us from being truly free. Why? Because there is a world which they can not touch. It is inside us. Quoting Andy Dufresne from Sawshank Redemption

There are places in this world that aren’t made out of stone. That there’s something inside… that they can’t get to, that they can’t touch. That’s yours.

In a world where they would create borders and divisions on the streets, we will create another inside us which will be free and respectful towards everyone. And that world exists today!

There may be boundaries which separates us outside it, but there are no rules of divisions on the Internet.

On this occasion, when our last hope seems to very likely to deny us of all the goodness in our future, let us pledge to stand by each other in a different world. A world created through our connectivity over the internet. Let us pledge that we would never let anyone touch it just like we would not let them touch our inside. In this world, let us pledge that we will all be free and considerate of others’ freedom no matter how hard they try to shut us down.

Please share to spread the word!
